Why Your Support Matters

In Uganda, gaps in the healthcare system disproportionately affect the most vulnerable – child caregivers, individuals with disabilities, and the elderly. This leaves organizations like PCAU to bridge these critical gaps through its community engagement programs like the Road to Hope program.

The funds raised through this match will directly:

• Educate and empower vulnerable children and youth by supporting their education and vocational training, setting them on a path to self-reliance and brighter futures.
• Engage youth in supporting community care efforts for older persons, individuals with disabilities, and marginalized groups, ensuring dignity and comfort for those who need it most.

PCAU will continue to grow its work on empowering people and communities. This aligns with the World Health Organization’s recommendation to focus on empowering people and communities as the first line of response for palliative care development, especially in low-resource settings like Uganda. PCAU’s Road to Hope program anchors the organization’s work in communities, and in recent years, has expanded its reach to help more children and families with palliative care needs. The program supports formal education including vocational education and training, apprenticeship, and mentorship for youth to transform livelihoods. Their newer Compassionate Communities initiative includes youth from diverse backgrounds to build a greater sense of community, solidarity, and solution in these future leaders. These youth learn about palliative care and participate in community service activities with local hospices.
